For Gumroad sellers

How to get sales on Gumroad, without posting every day.

Gumroad sales come from people you send to your product page. Post useful content where your buyers already spend time, every day, and point them to your Gumroad link once they trust you. Postomate does that posting for you.

Postomate reads your public Gumroad page. No Gumroad login needed.

freelancers: this is why you're always short at month end

Why most Gumroad products go quiet after launch.

  1. 1

    Gumroad doesn't bring you buyers

It hosts your product and takes the payment. Almost every sale starts with someone you sent there yourself, from a post, a bio link or an email.

  2. 2

Discover is a long shot, and costs more

Gumroad Discover can show your product to shoppers, but you're competing with every other seller, and Gumroad keeps 30% of those sales instead of 10% + 50¢.

  3. 3

Launch day is a spike, not a plan

You post on launch day, friends buy, then sales stop the moment you stop posting. Steady sales need steady posting, for months.

Traffic you bring yourself is also the cheapest.

What you keep from one sale, depending on how the buyer found you.

On a $24 product, a buyer you bring yourself is worth $4.30 more to you than one from Discover.

What you keep from one sale, by where the buyer came from
PriceBuyer came from your post or linkBuyer found you on Gumroad Discover
$9$7.60$6.30
$24$21.10$16.80
$49$43.60$34.30

What Postomate posts for a Gumroad product.

Most posts teach something your buyers want to know. Only a few mention the product, and only once people have a reason to care. Each platform gets posts written for how it works.

  1. I lost $2,400 last year to invoices I forgot to chase. Not bad clients. No system. The 4-column setup that fixed it:

  2. 1. Status. Only four options: Pitched, Active, Invoiced, Paid. Anything sitting in Invoiced for 7+ days is your chase list.

  3. 2. Next action, with a day. Not “follow up”. Write the actual thing: “Send homepage v2, Thu”.

  4. 3. Invoice due date. Sort by it every Monday. Ten minutes, and nothing slips.

  5. I built this as a Notion template with the views already set up. It's on my profile if you want it.

The rule: Teaches one thing. The product gets one soft line, in the last post only.

I stopped losing money to forgotten invoices with one 10-minute Monday habit

Last December I added up invoices I'd never followed up on. $2,400. Not clients refusing to pay, just me forgetting. What fixed it was boring: every client gets one status (Pitched, Active, Invoiced, Paid), and every Monday I sort by invoice due date. Anything in Invoiced for more than 7 days gets a polite nudge that day. The part that made it stick was writing the next action with a day on it. “Follow up” never happens. “Send revised quote Thursday” does. A spreadsheet works fine for this. (Disclosure: I sell a Notion version, but you don't need it.)

The rule: A real story that teaches. One disclosed line about the product, never a link.

Last year I sent 41 invoices. I forgot to follow up on 6 of them. That's $2,400 I only noticed in December. The fix wasn't a new tool. It was one rule: every Monday, sort clients by invoice due date and chase anything 7+ days late. Ten minutes. Three months in, I haven't missed one. If you want the Notion template I use for this, comment “tracker” and I'll send it over.

The rule: A lesson from your own work. The ask is “comment” or “DM me”, never “buy now”.

  1. 2Give every client one status: Pitched · Active · Invoiced · Paid
  2. 3Invoiced for 7+ days? That's your chase list.
  3. 4Write the next action with a day. Not “follow up”.
  4. 5Every Monday: sort by due date. 10 minutes.

Save this for your next admin hour. Most “cash flow problems” in freelancing are really follow-up problems. The Notion version, views already built, is linked in my profile.

The rule: The slides teach. The product only shows up at the end of the caption.

the freelance admin habit that actually stuck. template's in my bio

The rule: Casual, lowercase, quick. The product is the last line: “in my bio”.

Fix these on your Gumroad page before you post.

Posting sends people to your page. These make sure they buy when they get there.

  • Say who it's for in the first line

“A Notion tracker for freelancers with 3+ clients” sells better than “The ultimate productivity system”. People arriving from a post decide in seconds.

  • Use a cover that reads as a thumbnail

Your cover shows up small when your link is shared and on Discover. Big words and one clear image beat a detailed mockup.

  • Turn on Gumroad affiliates

Let fans earn a cut for recommending you. Every person who already likes your product can bring you buyers you'd never reach.

  • Put your Gumroad link in every bio

Most posts that sell say “link in my profile” or “link in bio”, not a link in the post. Make sure it's there on every account you post from.

Gumroad questions.

How do I get my first sales on Gumroad?

Send people to your product page yourself. Pick one or two places your buyers already hang out, like X, Reddit or LinkedIn, and post something useful about the problem your product solves every day. Mention the product in a small share of those posts, with your Gumroad link in your bio. First sales usually come from people who've seen several of your posts.

Does Gumroad promote my product for me?

Only through Discover, Gumroad's marketplace, and you can't count on it. You're competing with every other seller there, and Gumroad keeps 30% of Discover sales instead of the usual 10% + 50¢. Treat Discover sales as a bonus, not the plan.

Can I post my Gumroad link on Reddit?

In most subreddits, a bare product link gets removed or downvoted. What works is a post that genuinely teaches something, with one honest line saying you sell a product about it, and the link in your profile. Postomate never puts a link in a Reddit post for this reason.

How long until posting turns into sales?

Expect weeks, not days. People usually see you several times before they buy, so what matters is posting consistently for months. That's the part most sellers drop, and the part Postomate does for you.

Does Postomate work with my Gumroad link?

Yes. Paste your product link, like yourname.gumroad.com/l/your-product. Postomate reads your public product page to learn who it's for and why people buy. You don't connect or log in to your Gumroad account.

What kinds of Gumroad products does it work for?

Products that solve a problem: ebooks, guides, courses, Notion and spreadsheet templates, playbooks, coaching, communities and memberships. It isn't a fit yet for products bought on looks alone, like presets, printables, art or fonts.

Paste your Gumroad link. We’ll handle the posting.

Your first posts are written while you set up. Approve each one, or let it run on autopilot.
