Selling on Reddit

How to sell digital products on Reddit without getting banned.

Don't sell on Reddit; teach on Reddit. Write genuinely useful posts in subreddits where your buyers ask questions, mention your product in one honest, disclosed line with no link, and let people find you through your profile. Postomate writes Reddit posts that follow those rules.

How selling on Reddit actually works.

  1. 1

Every subreddit has its own rules

Moderators decide what's allowed. Many ban self-promotion outright; others allow it only in a weekly thread.

  2. 2

    Links get filtered

Posts with product links from newer accounts are often removed automatically before anyone sees them.

  3. 3

    Good posts keep working

A genuinely useful post can rank in Google and send readers to your profile for months.

Posts that sell on Reddit.

Every one of these is useful even if nobody ever buys.

  1. 1

    “What I learned” stories

A real experience with numbers and specifics. Reddit rewards honesty and detail.

  2. 2

    Step-by-step how-tos

The full method, not a teaser. Holding back is what gets posts called out as ads.

  3. 3

    Questions back to the community

Share your experience, then ask for theirs. It starts conversations that put you in front of more people.

Example Reddit posts.

Invented products, to show the format. Your posts are written from your own product page.

Example: a Notion client tracker

Every client gets one status (Pitched, Active, Invoiced, Paid), and every Monday I sort by invoice due date. Anything in Invoiced for more than 7 days gets a polite nudge that day. A spreadsheet works fine for this. (Disclosure: I sell a Notion version, but you don't need it.)

The rule: A real story that teaches. One disclosed line about the product, never a link.

Example: a rental property tracker

I thought my second rental was my best one. Monthly tracking showed the opposite

Higher rent, so I assumed it was better. After tracking six costs per property every month, it netted about $1,900 less over a year. Repairs and vacancy ate the difference. (I sell a tracker template, but any sheet with per-property tabs works.)

The rule: A real story that teaches. One disclosed line about the product, never a link.

Example: a cold email ebook

I sent 200 cold emails last quarter. Here's what got replies

The ones that worked were short and specific: one detail about them, one problem, a tiny ask. Anything over about 120 words got ignored. (I've written my templates up as a paid guide, but this is the core of it.)

The rule: A real story that teaches. One disclosed line about the product, never a link.

Check these before you post in any subreddit.

  • Read the rules and the sidebar

Look for words like “self-promotion”, “spam” and “links”. If promotion isn't allowed, don't mention the product at all.

  • Look for a promo thread

Many communities allow promotion only in a pinned weekly thread. Use it, and keep your main posts promotion-free.

  • Disclose, don't link

If you mention your product, say plainly that you sell it, in one line. Put the link in your profile, not the post.

  • Be a member first

Comment helpfully for a while before you post. Accounts that only ever post about their own product get flagged.

Questions.

Can you sell digital products on Reddit?

Not directly, in most communities. What works is sharing useful knowledge in subreddits where your buyers ask questions, mentioning your product honestly in one line where the rules allow it, and letting people find the link on your profile.

Which subreddits allow self-promotion?

It changes, so always check each subreddit's rules and sidebar before posting. Many allow it only in a weekly promotion thread; communities about your topic usually matter more than general self-promotion ones.

How do I mention my product without getting banned?

Make the post fully useful without the product, add one plain line like “Disclosure: I sell a template for this”, and never include the link in the post. If the rules forbid any promotion, leave it out entirely.

Does Postomate post links on Reddit?

No. Postomate's Reddit posts teach first, and any product mention is a single disclosed line with no link. It can also skip a topic entirely when there's nothing worth posting.

Paste your product link. We’ll post to Reddit for you.

Your first posts are written while you set up. Approve each one, or let it run on autopilot.
